Surrey’s First ‘Taste of India’ Festival Celebrates Culture, Community and Unity

Surrey, B.C. – An inaugural Taste of India Festival in Surrey proved to be a vibrant celebration of Indian culture, diversity and community spirit, drawing large crowds from across the city to enjoy a rich showcase of food, music, art and cultural performances.

The event brought together residents from diverse backgrounds, offering an opportunity to experience the flavours, traditions and heritage of India while strengthening connections within Surrey’s multicultural community.

Among the distinguished guests in attendance were Surrey Mayor Brenda Locke, Noemi Victorino , counselor Linda Anis, Shina Varmani and other city representatives, who praised the organizers for launching a festival that highlights the cultural richness and diversity that define the City of Surrey.

Speaking at the event, Mayor Brenda Locke described the festival as more than a celebration of the Indian community, calling it a reflection of Surrey’s multicultural identity and shared commitment to inclusivity.“Events like these play an important role in bringing communities together, fostering cultural understanding and strengthening the bonds that make Surrey such a vibrant and welcoming city,” she said.

The mayor also extended special recognition to the festival’s lead organizer, Amrit Dhot, along with the volunteers, sponsors and community partners whose dedication and hard work contributed to the success of the inaugural event.Throughout the day, thousands of families enjoyed a wide variety of authentic Indian cuisine, live entertainment and cultural presentations, creating an atmosphere of celebration and community engagement. Attendees expressed enthusiasm for the festival and voiced hopes that Taste of India will become an annual tradition and one of Surrey’s signature cultural events in the years ahead.

The successful debut of the Taste of India Festival underscored the growing appreciation for multicultural celebrations in Surrey and highlighted the important role such events play in promoting diversity, inclusion and community unity across the city.
